It was really nice to find David’s, Doug’s and Luis’ comments on my blog – funny warm feeling, like I had entered a circle of friends. Thank you all !!! You all have been my guides into Web 2.0 world.
We live and think we learn, and suddenly realize being in a similar situation than so many times before. One of my favorite philosophers is Heraclitus - and the above picture if spring stream reminded me of his writings on change… how everything flows and we never step in same river twice. Yet life seems go also in circles. Our decisions have led us into repeating same patterns. It is actually fascinating. Are we able to break free from our habits, behavioral patterns, can we really choose? Can we make a difference? I believe we do, at least sometimes. But is so easy to slide back … like circles, waves and spirals. I even chose rounded look for my blog – thank you David for blog coaching!!!

Wow, your blog looks different today. You definitely don’t look like a newbie anymore!
I’ve been following Luis’ Giving up on work e-mail quest, and have to say that I’m not quite as brave. Blogging helps me express myself in a way of broadcast that feels a little less pushy, because people can choose to subscribe or not subscribe.
I have reduced my work e-mail, though, by (a) using an RSS reader so that I don’t get news or notifications in e-mail anymore, and (b) partitioning off my non-work e-mail into multiple different addresses so that I can somewhat prioritize my different personas. The net effect is that I’m somewhat faster in answering my work e-mail and my most personal e-mail, … and a bit slower on the mass bulk (where it’s good that I don’t have storage limits or expiration dates!)
HI David,
I have followed Luis’ challenge as well, it’s very interesting social experiment. Currently e-mails consume so much working time, that all alternatives to reduce it are very welcome!
Hi guys! What a great thread, indeed! I certainly agree with you, Minna, that some times we can make a difference and what I really like about it is not just making such difference, but the effort of trying. It is just so fascinating! This whole quest on e-mail detox campaign I have started up is helping me out bring together a whole bunch of new conversations. Mainly, challenge the e-mails we get to send and receive every day.
So far it is getting people rather excited about the whole thing and they are all following up quite attentively and, in most cases, it is starting to question themselves and how they see e-mail and so far just that makes it all worth it to me, because they are thinking and acknowledging that e-mail may not be the best thing and would therefore try another approaches, which in most cases is helping quite a lot!
Thus hang in there and stay tuned for more updates, but so far things are looking very very encouraging! Thanks again for the link love and for being part of the river flow with us!
